The Stearns and Foster Company
The Stearns and Foster company produces bedding products found at national
chains like Macy's and the store Bed Bath and Beyond. Macy's is a big
department store. Bed Bath and Beyond has expanded rapidly in recent years,
leading to its ubiquitous presence in shopping malls around the U.S. They are
known to carry a variety of home bedroom, bathroom and kitchen products, such as bedding, bath towels and rugs, dish racks and so forth. We will discuss a bit of Bed Bath and Beyond's down alternatives as their line-up is comprehensive.
The Covington
Down Alternative" comforter by Stearns and Foster. The Covington has a
high-end 400 thread count cotton cover, along with a proprietary fill they
call "LuxeFill". Luxefill is likely a synthetic polyester fill much like
other products on the market. The internal construction is baffle-box,
ensuring a great capacity for loft. There are three sizes, twin, queen and king.
Baffle-Box Maintains Evenness
fill inside the cover. If sufficient shifting occurs, the polyester fibers will
pile up in areas and go missing in others, creating overly warm or cold spots.
A baffle-box isolates regions inside the comforter, forcing the fill to remain
where it was put in. Moreover, the baffle-box provides internal structure which helps
keep the interior roomy, in turn letting the polyester remain expanded in a lofty
state.
Care of the Covington
According to Bed Bath and Beyond, the Covington can be washed in the machine
making it easier to keep clean. It's also labeled as a "medium warmth" down
alternative comforter, so it can be used all year around as long as the home
temperature doesn't get too low. Tests showed that washing the comforter
didn't affect the appearance drastically. If its washed or soiled often, use of
a duvet cover will help keep its longevity. As a consumer, you probably can't go
wrong with a Stearns and Foster. However, since it's at the high end of the price
spectrum, consider taking a look at Bed Bath and Beyond's other down alternatives.
Shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond
Consider looking at companies other than Stearns and Foster if you're at a
Bed Bath and Beyond location. For example, there is the Columbia Oversized at 300 thread count, a SunBeam electrically-warmed
Queen-sized, Nautica and Royal Velvet down alternative comforters. Bed Bath and Beyond
has also contracted out manufacturing of their own line of synthetics, some of which
we list here: Allergy Luxe, Indulgence and Sleep Basics line of down alternative comforters.
These are spread over different price points ranging from $59.99 and up.
Allergy Luxe: A Covington Alternative?
The Allergy Luxe is worth mentioning for a few points. It's similar to the Covington
for having a baffle-box for extra loft. Bed Bad and Beyond touts its high durability
fabric that can endure repeated washings. The cover, surprisingly, is only 20% cotton
with the rest made up by polyester. Finally, the kicker is that the Allergy Luxe comes
with a 20 year warranty, alluding to the company's strong belief in its own brand line
of products.
